Product Review -- Knight TK2000 12 Guage Shotgun

GENERAL INFORMATION

I bought this gun new from a gun wholesaler.  This a typical early inline action. The gun was finished with a good quality hardwood  camoflage.  It came with fiber optic sights which I immediately replaced with a Williams peep sight as that's my favorite open sight.  It has a  jug choke design in that the" jug" allows the shot to expand, then redirects it into the shotgun choke tube.  This is supposed to intensify the pattern.  They advertise a 30"pattern  at 40yds.

It had a Reminton 700 type of safety on the right side that is positive and worked fine.  I had no problem with it while wearing light gloves.  It's cocking safety protrudes out the back of the action.

PATTERNING

My frame of reference for patterning is a Reminton 870 SPS that I had which would pattern into 20" at 40 yds with #4 shot.  I consider this to be the epitome of a long range turkey pattern.  The TK2000 was pattterned with the full choke using Knight's load recommendations.  Patterns were even enough but  I couldn't get the pattern into 30" at 40 yds with the recommmended loads.  Additional experimenting may have been able to do it but for reasons I noted in my field experience I did not try any additional loads.

FIELD EXPERIENCE

I hunted with this gun twice.  To get a feel of how it would carry on a rabbit hunt, I carried it to the area where I was turkey hunting and back "at the ready".  I learned quickly that I would not want to carry this for any kind of field hunting.  Carrying the gun at the ready caused the cocking safety to dig into the web of my hand.  This wouldn't be a problem when turkey hunting but it wouldn't be acceptable for a rabbit, quail, or pheasant hunt.  The gun also also muzzle heavy with the large heavy choke.  If you've every had a turkey slow in coming in you know what you'd be thinking about a heavy barreled gun when it was over.  Unfortunately, I didn't get a turkey with it.

CONCLUSION

I didn't much like this gun for the reasons I've already mentioned.   I did like is the ability to load the gun without removing the choke, but there wasn't much else about the gun that appealed to me.  Needless to say, I no longer own this gun.
